Hymenoplasty or hymen repair is a surgical procedure only performed for women who have not given birth. Dr. Isom-Batz is very understanding of your desire for this procedure and will make every effort so you are comfortable both during the consultation and your scheduled surgery day.
Customs, tradition and religious beliefs are why some women want this surgery. For some, virginity is a must before marriage. Hymenoplasty is performed to cause bleeding during intercourse. The surgery itself uses remnants of the hymenal ring to reconstruct the hymen and re-attach a portion of the vaginal opening.
The surgery takes approximately 30 minutes to perform.
After surgery, you must refrain from intercourse for up to two months. Once healed, the hymen will tear again and bleed.
